Political platform statement

Why I am running for this office: I spent 40 years in public service, 33 years in City government, 28 years as a City Manager and 8 months as an Interim County Manager. I also have a Masters Degree in Public Administration. My wife Rose and I plan on spending the rest of our lives in The Dalles. I want to continue using my professional experience and education to make this community grow and prosper and finish what we started when I was first elected one year and 9 months ago. More specifically, I want to improve our downtown (including development of a "people place" on 2nd Street), promote more citizen involvement (through my appointments to City boards and commissions and re-instituting my monthly Coffee with the Mayor), lead a review of the City's comprehensive plan as it relates to infrastructure improvements and land use planning, continue our art and beautification initiatives and maintain our excellent inter-governmental relationships with our local partners. Being a good Mayor in these difficult times means having a vision and possessing the ability to build consensus and bringing people together for the common good. I have done that for 40 years, including the year and nine months I've been Mayor and I will continue to do so with a positive attitude while setting a good example.
